The Law of Expectation

To those who lean on the ever-outstretched arm of the infinite, life is big with limitless opportunities

— Ernest Holmes

Depending on how you define it, the law of expectation can operate under various universal laws, the law of karma, the law of mental equivalence or the law of attraction. Whichever the case, the law of expectation operates first in the mind as you believe, and then manifests itself in reality. With regards to the law of karma, the law of expectation operates in the fundamental truth that when you operate in peace and goodness, you can expect goodness, divine strength and comfort in return. That even when people do not do good by you, your operation in this law solidifies a good result in your life. The law of mental equivalence states that “what you experience in your life is the mental equivalent of what you create in your mind.” Thus, if you expect to have a bad day, you will have a bad day. If you expect to have an incredible day, your day will be packed with positivity. Therefore, be optimistic, trust in what you hope for, believe in the positive outcomes you seek and cling to what is valid, right and possible. It is done to you as you believe.

Words are powerful, so be careful what you speak. Your words will attract back to you as you speak them. If you expect nothing good to happen in your life, nothing good will happen. You will not attract the abundant and limitless possibilities that are waiting for you.

The law of expectation is powerful and works well in our lives, as we rightly apply it to ourselves. However, when we impose our expectations on others, especially when they are unrealistic, this law has the opposite effect. This is because our expectations for others can and may violate the laws that govern their right to free will and free choice. We cannot tell others how to live their lives, or expect them to live up to our expectations. That is not to say that we should not have expectations. On the contrary, we must make sure our expectations are realistic and based on mutual respect and understanding of what is possible and just.
